This is the spot to view my current works in progress.
If I am working on a commission for you, my might see some in progress shots here.
If not you can see some of the other stuff I am working on.
Painting with the family
One of the funnest things in the world is to get others hooked into this insane hobby -- especially when they are your family. A few weeks ago I held a painting party for my family which is really just an excuse to see them. (I'm greedy that way) I am really impressed with their results and I forgot to get some pictures of them before they took off. Lucking we live in the world of smart phones so that was easily rectified. Now I just need to get off my butt and post the pictures I took of the rest of the familys work. These are the very first miniatues they have ever painted by the way.
Long overdue WIP post for Dungeon Saga...
Because work and personal life have been invading my painting life I have be neglecting my painting for a weeks and I need to get back on track now that the dust has settled. What better time than now? What better place than here.
So here are some Dungeon Saga miniatures that I have been painting for a client that are almost complete. I finished them during my own self imposed Charleston Heston apocalyptic film trifecta... What is it you ask? Well I will tell you.... In no particular order: The Planet of the Apes; Soylent Green; The Omega Man. Probably more than you wanted to know but....
Ok I took these in a hurry so some them aren't the best but I will post better ones when the project is completed. Anyways here are the pictures...
More works in progress this week
Here are a large select of stuff for Mantic's Dungeon Saga in their "protective tub". I tend to work through miniatures until I have them about 90% complete, then start the next batch of figs within a single commission. Then I start on the next batch of figs and so on. When all the batches within a single commission are 90% done, I go back a finish them all starting with the first batch. This way I can correct any mistakes I may have missed the first time around.
Probably more of my process than you wanted to know but anyway here are the pictures. They are taken with my iPad so you will have to excuse the quality...
Goblin Wolf Riders
These are some goblin wolf riders that I am doing as part of a larger commission. I like the way they came out so I thought I would share.
Also here are some more Dungeon Saga Pics. This game is too much fun and you should check it out when you get a chance.
Izzbuzz the Terrible
Back in the 80's my brother and sister and I used to play DnD together. They were both older than me which made me the DM cuz I had lots of time on my hands. My sisters favorite character (also her first) was Izzbuzz the terrible. I ran adventures for the two of them for years until I discovered a game called Gama World and that the DMG had a way of converting characters from one universe to the other. So what could I do but make a portal into Gama world at the end of an adventure and trick them into crossing. Shortly after they did, I ran out of time and we stopped playing. My sister has never forgiven me even though we haven't played together in decades. Whenever gaming comes up, she lets me know(with love) that I stranded Izzbuzz in Gama world and then we quit playing.
Flash forward to 2016 and I have finely come up with a way to beg for forgiveness. I am painting the give of Izzbuzz the Terrible for her. Shhhh... Don't tell her. Anyway this is a work in progress.
Dungeon Stones are here!
The good folks at Frontline Games did a kickstarter a few months ago for their new Dungeon Stones product and I jumped on board. I have have tinkered with Hirst Arts blocks and Dwarven Forge tiles in the past (and currently) -- each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Stones brings their own set of Strengths to the table. I'll try to get a review in later, but two of my favorite things are : 1) They are double sided! Its like getting twice the tiles for your buck! 2) They are made of the reaper bones material so they are easily modifiable
The above picture is what they look like out of the box and below I have added some pictures of my test tiles for color scheme. I'm still tinkering with this though. In case you are curious, all you need to do is wash them and apply the paint. I used dish soap and dumped them all into the kitchen sink. No primer is necessary!
resin cast bases
Here are some of the bases I created from the molds I made. They are bone piles I created for Dungeon saga and as you can see I got a little too ambitious with the bones. See pieces of the silicon rubber mold stuck in with the resin? It should not be a big deal if the mold degrade because they are just markers anyway. Below is a picture of the WIP for the painted bone pile.
Work revisited...
So I was cleaning my studio (well office really but I started calling it my studio to mess with people but now I feel like its making my work better so I kept doing it -- HA!) a few days ago and I came across these guys. I'm not sure why I stopped working on them so close to the goal line, but I did. All they really needed was their eyes and some bases so I put them back on the bench. If someone could tell me WHY is painted patterns UNDER the boards I would love to know. I wonder if I was going to have them doing rails or something...
And then there is this guy
This is where I am at with this guy. He woke me up in the middle of the night and told me to finish him then he kicked over my class of water. When I was not able to get him done, he put a curse on my 20 siders which he will only lift after he is finished....
Watch out for the Nuns of the Apocalypse!
I have been wanting to paint this figure for a long time and I finely got around to it. Sister Mary Mangler -- The sunday school teacher of the wasteland.
They're Here!
I finely can check this off my todo list. All have to do now is mail all of them to the participants . If I owe you one and you sent me your address its on the way.
Happy New Year!
I got a chance to play DnD 5e over the holidays it looks just like this is turning into a regular thing! I am so excited about this I might pee my pants.
One of the funnies events that happened the adventure was that the party was attacked by a Dark Mantle. Okay so the attack wasn't funny -- at least to the character on the receiving end of it. When we saw the name we quickly transformed it into something wrong. Really wrong. Dark Mantle became Dark Taint. It was so funny that one player suggested that I modify a figure to commemorate the <dramatic voice> Dark Taint </dramatic voice>.
As you can see, I am no sculptor as you can see, but hey its my first effort. I've filled gaps and re-positioned arms using green stuff but I have never created anything from scratch before. The figure is a Reaper Bones miniature I got from a Reaper Kickstarter but the Dark Mantle is all my work. I'm pretty happy with the results although I feel like I will do a much better job if I did it a second time. For one thing, I would make it smaller. There isn't really a size reference in the monster manual but after sculpting it I think it should be just large enough to cover a figures head. Secondly, I would do the basic shapes first then add details later.
Dungeon Saga ARRIVES
So I got my copy of Mantic's Dungeon Saga today after problems with my kickstarter data and other things so to celebrate I thought I would post some of the pictures of the Miniatures I got in the first shipment.
Here is the full crew.
This guy is not finished but I going to take a break from him, not only to play the game but because I want to do a more elaborate pattern on his cloak. I'm trying to match the figures to their pictures within the game and there are no pictures of him from behind.
Dungeon Saga minus one
Well I've got all the Dungeon Saga miniatures finished except for one and he is really close. Now if the game would just arrive...
